I did it

Well, I transfered over to the new non-beta version of blogger today (since today is the official non-beta version release day). So far I can't really see any reason to have done so other than I can log in with my gmail account instead of my blogger account. Oh, and there are labels at the end of my posts now.
The one major feature that could be useful I have no use for: the ability to restrict access to select readers. In other news, Jen should be dancing a happy dance about now.

Edit: Because I have a custom blog layout I don't have a place to view all labels. Oh well. Guess it is time to make a new template.

Life and stuff

Life has been crazy. I've been working a ton trying to get a new web server up and going. I spent 3 or 4 weeks trying to get it going. you can see it at www.fresnounified.org.

We are doing Christmas in LA and New years in Phoenix. Should be exciting. I need to decide what I want to do for my birthday.

Oh, and I have finals next week. I'll be studying all weekend (aside from picking up something in bakersfield from Deb's parents).

$200

God is good! It turns out that we are only going to have to pay $200 for the $3000 worth of car repairs we have! The car is getting a brand new transmission and a brand new radio, both with a new 3 year warrenty. They gave us a good-will warrenty because the transmission really shouldn't go out after only 3.5 years. So we just have to pay a deductable of $200.

Yay!

Yes I like books

Check that out. It is a tool for tone-deafness. I just scored 63% after a long day of work when I wasn't really paying attention. I am going to take it again tomorrow when I am a little less tired.

Haha just kidding, here you go:

We're always just saying nonsense
Yes or no, sometimes it's neither
Anytime the world makes me comfortable
Play until the day you can't move anymore
I want to live with composure to spare, I want to keep my promises
To love someone is really quite simple
Flow, flowing away to a rather far distance hurts
It seems like I'm only going to forget my precious memories
I definitely want to see you, I want to be by your side one hundred years from now
No matter how far apart we are, the spell that joins us is JOY
When the oak trees sway, remember me right away
We're always just saying nonsense
Fate happens out of coincidence, not necessity
I'll never get it, I want to break my promises
To love someone is sometimes rather hard
I definitely want to see you, I want to be by your side one hundred years from now
No matter how far apart we are, the spell that joins us is JOY
I want to be giddy until I die
I want to be excited until I die

Since Melissa was posting about bad music videos, I thought I'd post a good one for her.

I've seriously watched this 4 times already this morning. I just can't move my eyes away.

So little time, so much to do

Greetings from the depths of exhaustion
Things have been good with me overall, but I have been feeling very drained for reasons that I cannot figure out. It is mostly emotional. What is so exciting in my life that would cause me to be emotionally burned out? I really feel as if I am missing something, and I can't figure out what it is. Spiritual warfare maybe? I'd really been working on regaining the emotional part of my relationship with God (having spent too much time focusing on the intellectual), so I guess it wouldn't suprise me if that were where I was getting attacked.

We went to Portland last weekend for Mia's wedding. It was fun to see people.
This next weekend we have two parties.
Weekend after that we have Mia's reception.
Weekend after that we have who knows what (please be open)
Weekend after that we have Christina's wedding.
Weekend after that we are free (FREE!!!!)
Weekend after that we will be in AZ for GS's wedding
All the weekends after that till the end of the semester I will be working on getting my thesis finished and preparing for finals.

Sigh

We are thinking about renting an apartment in Fresno with our renter money. Just a small place. It would be nice for the nights we don't need to be in Visalia (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) just so we wouldn't loose those two hours of driving. We will have to see though. I'd have to change around my workout schedule a bit if I wanted to have those nights free which would probably mean giving up tennis.

In case I forgot to mention; my thesis proposal was approved, and I am on to the research part of the process. Still looking forward to the work, just worried about how I am going to find the time.

My class (advanced network security) is actually directly applicable to the work I am doing for my job, so that is kind of nice.

To everyone I haven't had time (or been able) to spend time with/talk to, I miss you.

TGIF

No, Seriously, TGIF.

It has been a weird week. I've been stressed, but I haven't really had any obvious reason to be stressed. I gave up caffine for the most part last week, so I think my body is still just getting used to the change. Deb and I are going camping at Pismo Beach this weekend, so maybe that will help me relax.

Starting next week I am going to be working a ton of overtime. So basically between work and school I will literally not have time for anything else. Except for Bible study and church of course. We will have to see if I will keep playing Tennis, and I will definitely still do my personal training sessions at the gym. So other than those things I will literally not have time for anything else. Oh, and I will spend time with Deb. So other than that and those other things I will literally not have time for anything else. Except Josh is coming to visit on Tuesday, so other than him coming and that, and those other things I will literally not have time for anything else.

Work is good for the moment. We finally just got a new Chief Technology Officer here, which should really help the work environment quite a bit.

School wise things are good. I've actually managed to stay on top of everything so far. I only have one class since I am working on my thesis. I just finished getting my proposal and commitee forms turned in, so I'm pretty much good to go on that front.

Toodles.

I totally was just thinking of calling you

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/09/05/telephone_telepathy/

So now scientists are studying the fact that some people correctly guess who is calling them. I sure hope they take into account that most people subconsciously know people good enough to estimate when they would call, assuming that they are friends at least.

So as our poll for today ( and to see if anyone is still reading ):

Have you ever picked up the phone phone to call somebody only to end up answering the phone before it rang because that person had just called you?

How about calling someone only to get a busy tone because they had just called you?

I've had both happen, with the latter happening on a monthly basis with Josh.

Time to think

I've been going back through my blog posts since I first started. Has anyone else noticed how much I've shifted from writing about my opinions on things towards only writing about what is going on in my life, and lately not even that? It is interesting how much that has followed my stress levels over the past (almost) two years. Most of the time recently I've barely felt like I was staying afloat, much less that I have time to think about interesting things.

This weekend I went camping in the Sunset camp ground at Grant Grove in the National Park near here with a couple friends. It was probably the first time in a long time that I was able to just sit for three days and not worry about what was going on in my life without feeling guilty for neglecting something of mine that needed taking care of.

Things are going OK at work for now. I am still waiting for some big changes to happen, but unfortunately they are big changes that don't care about little ol' me, so there isn't much I can do to influcence when they happen.

Sigh... that is all for now.

It is a slow day

Hi there, and welcome to yet another installment of "Jeff is bored at work".

It seems like everybody is out of the office, and there is not much going on around here. In actuality, there is only one person gone, but there is still not much going on around here.

I'm going to be on Vacation starting tomorrow till the 5th, so I don't have much work to do since I don't exactly want to start up any new projects right before I leave (not that there are any projects for me to start up). So I'm just completing the hand-full of small things that need to be done today. Things have been going good here over all though. I am still pretty glad I am working here. Hopefully when I get back there will be more work.

I'm not actually going anywhere for my vacation. I was going to go to Phoenix, but I didn't buy a ticket in time for it to be cheap. I might end up driving out there for a day or two though, we will see. Deb is going to be in Florida for 4 days next week, and I was hoping to go with her, but those tickets cost $700, so that isn't going to happen.

I do have plenty of things to do around the house though:
Mow (and do other lawn related yard work)
Wash my car (what color is it again?)
Water trees
Hang blinds
Fix the brakes on both the cars
Beat Oblivion
Play Halo
Do Chris and Will's engagement pictures (put them on the web)
Get caught up on some other pictures
Make a wedding portfolio website
Re-install the four computers we have at the house
Vacuum
Move the litter box upstairs
Get Comcast to come out and fix my cable
Communicate with my school to find out about my Thesis so I can get started
Maybe trench for sprinklers

I'm sure I'll come up with other things to keep me busy as well.

This week has been relaxing. I've taken to reading a book in my car with the airconditioner blasting for my lunch break (as opposed to not taking one at all) which has really made my work day more bearable. At night I have been watching the simpsons and hanging out with Deb, as well as playing xbox.

I'm sure I'll get around to writing something more interesting soon. I have a couple things I need to write about:

Ode to Cassandra
Letters to Hyde

Mom and Dad

I was looking through lyrics for songs that I love and came across this one by Good Charlotte. It is just so true I had to post it here. For my Mom and Dad:

Always, Always and Forever
Always, Always and Forever

I'm sitting here
I'm thinking back to a time when I was young
My memory is clear as day
I'm listening to the dishes clink
You were downstairs
you would sing
songs of praise
And all the times we laughed with you
And all the times that you stayed true to us

Now we'll say, I said I thank you
I'll always thank you
More than you could know
Than I could ever show
And I love you
I'll always love you
There's nothing I won't do
to say these words to you
That you're beautiful forever

Always, Always and forever

you were my mom, you were my dad
The only thing I ever had was you, It's true
And even when the times got hard you were there
To let us know that we'd get through
you showed me how to be a man
You taught me how to understand
the things people do
You showed me how to love my God
You taught me that not everyone
knows the truth

And I thank you
I'll always thank you
More than you could know
Than I could ever show
And I love you
I'll always love you
There's nothing I won't do
to say these words to you
That you will live forever

Forever and ever
Forever and ever

I said I thank you
I'll always thank you
More than you could know
Than I could ever show
And I love you
I'll always love you
There's nothing I won't do
to say these words to you

That you will live forever

Weeeee!

A long time coming

Hello from the world of the uninteresting life. As some of you have noted (thanks Jen) it has been a while since I blogged. I guess you can say that I haven't really been in the mood. I've been working on recovering from a tiring semester of work and school, and life. Since my classes ended I have:

found out that I got B's in both of my classes. I went into one of the final for one of the classes not having a clue if I would even pass the class or not, and I walked out of the final still not having a clue if I would pass the class or not. I knew what 40% of my grade was before the final. For all I knew I could have had 100% on the final and still failed. Fortunately I didn't. Cryptography turned out to be a fun class, and I learned a ton, but Database was lame and I learned pretty much nothing.

I need to start working on my thesis sometime this summer. Aside from that I just have two classes left to go before I graduate!

Two saturdays ago I finally broke down and rented a rototiller so that I could tear up my back yard and plant grass correctly. My dad and grandfather came over and helped. We put down a good layer of multch and had at it. It looked pretty good when we were done, but it wasn't completely level. There are still some peaks and vallies that are annoying me. I will more than likely let this batch of grass grow, and then rototill it again next year once the multch has broken down so that I can get the ground smoother.

Last weekend we went up to crystal springs camp groun at grants grove in sequoia national park with our bible study group. I had a great time. It has been a while since I was able to go camping. Seeing as how it is one of my favorite things to do I was pretty excited. We made some good friends, had a nice time of fellowship, went hiking, and played with fire. I caught a table on fire when I was starting up my stove (this was right after my famous last words of "I know how to use it").

Other than that we have been spending a lot of time just sitting around in front of the TV relaxing. We have been watching Angel and Star Trek: Voyager. I bought an xbox 360 last week, and I have been working my way through Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, as well as playing my standard Halo 2 fare.

One major event that happened in the last week was that I paid off the last of our "non-essential" debt. We now only owe for our house, school, and car. I am pretty happy about this, as is Deb. The xbox was my reward (-= Next up will be paying off the money we owe to family that was lent to us for the house. Hopefully that will be accomplished quickly.

Well, I suppose I should leave some for next time so that you all don't have to wait another two months to hear from me again. Take care!

In case you've been wondering

I've been busy with home work. Give me two more weeks and I'll have enough time to do this thing again.

I can't believe it

I forgot to write about what I got on to write about last night.

Since the house repair people were in our kitchen till late last night, I took Deb out to a pizza place (Me and Ed's) to get pizza so we wouldn't have to deal with cooking so late. We had a coupon that got us $5 off of the pizza, so I figured it wouldn't be so bad to try it out. We got a large specialty pizza, garlic bread and two drinks for just over $20. That is pretty good for something that will last us two meals. Anyway, we placed our order, got our drinks, and waited, and waited, and waited... till they finally announced that our garlic bread was done 36 minutes later. So I went up, and asked what was taking so long (apperently the specialty pizzas take longer to cook). I got the bread, and went and got a drink refill, and when I got back the pizza was ready. I picked it up, sat down, and realized that there were mushrooms on it. We ordered no mushrooms. Fortunately I don't mind them so much, but I took the pizza back anyway on principal. They listened to my complaint and said, "you've waited long enough, can we just give you half off your order?". I said, "sure". So they went back to the cash register and started working on giving me half off, but apperently the only way they can refund anyone's money is by taking an entire item off the receipt. Since the pizza took up the majority of the purchase they couldn't figure out how to do it. Finally they gave up and just refunded the entire bill.
We were pretty excited to get a free meal, and the pizza was pretty good, so we promised them we'd be back. You really don't find such good customer service these days.

Odds and Ends, and Stuff.

So its been a while, big whup, wanna fight about it?

Things have been somewhat interesting around here. I've done a ton of work in the past two weeks (almost 30 hours of overtime). Its been fun, and I've learned a ton.

Our trees are growing nicely. Most of them have leaves on them now. I'm pretty excited. It is fun to see them grow.

Today our warrenty repair people finally came out to fix the problems identified in our one month inspection (ya, you heard me). Our kitchen tile looks much better, and our electrical fan sounds much nicer. Had an interesting scare with a permanent marker, but it was resolved.

That was the good part.
They brought out dirt to fill in the places that washed away in the flood. They even got it looking really good. But, its gone now. The rain washed away everything they did. I almost feel bad for them. Maybe next time they will fix the drainage first.
Next on the list was the pipe that was leaking over our front bathroom. It has only been leaking for a week, but there was already some pretty good damage. They went up into the attic to find the source of the leak and discovered, low and behold, that the insulation people had neglected to put insulation in the front ceiling. That explains why it is always so cold up there huh. My Dad is going to bringing the ladder by later so we can look in the upstairs ceiling and make sure they did that part right.
Anyway, we have a big hole in the ceiling now because the guy that was supposed to repair the leak didn't have the right parts. at least nothing else is getting ruined.

I'm going to be doing homework and Homework this weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to get out and recover some of the dirt before it washes too far away (or before someone else comes and takes it like last time). Our lawn looks pretty bad too.

I guess that is about all that is worth talking about. Things have actually been going pretty good over all.

Catch ya later!

Should I?

I've been wondering... Should I change my blog design again? It's been a while since I changed it last, and I never quite finished it. What do you all think?

Am I weird for really liking fish burritos for breakfast?

Too Funny to Pass Up.

These two news stories were posted next to each other. They are completely unrelated of course, but it still struck me as funny.

Why?!?!?!???

I went to McDonalds for breakfast today. There is one in the gas station that I go to, so I occasionally go in while I am filling up in the morning. Every single time I have gone I have had a bad experience. Everytime I have walked out of there thinking it would be the last time. The thing is, I usually have so little time in the morning that if I stop for gas I don't have time for breakfest somewhere else. (before anyone comments, I know I should just eat at home, and I am going to work on my schedule so that I have time. I feel like throwing up if I eat before I've been awake for 45-60 minutes, so I'm going to try waking up earlier.)
Anyway, the first time I went I spent 5 minutes standing and waiting for my orange juice, only to have them say, "sorry, we have no orange juice". So I asked for Ice Tea, but they didn't have that either. I finally ended up with Sprite, which was NASTY (as in there was something wrong with it).
The next time I went they just took a really long time; longer than it took to get 16 gallons of gas from the Unical 76 pump. Unical 76 pumps are SLOW! it should not take longer than the pump to throw a McGriddle and a hashbrown into a bag. You go to McDonalds because they are supposed to be FAST!
Finally, today. Today I woke up in a horrible mood because I did poorly on a paper that I spent 27 hours writing this weekend, and got barely any sleep. So I went to McDonalds, and I stood there, and I stood there, and I stood there. Turns out, the cashier could not help me becuase the terminal was locked out from another employee ORDERING THEIR OWN BREAKFAST! Once they go around to taking my order things went pretty fast; like about 20 seconds, including the girl having to go back because she forgot to put in my second hashbrown. The problem was, they gave me my orange juice in a kiddy cup. That is right, a kiddy cup. One of the best things about McDonalds is that they give you your morning OJ in a 20 ounce cup normally (which is nice because it offsets having to pay $1.50 for it). This morning however, I got a nice 8 ounce kiddy cup full of my $1.50 OJ. I asked, "doesn't this normally come in a larger cup?" and the girl replied, "no, that is a small OJ". Well, you were right miss., that was a small OJ.

I've been working hard to not blog while I'm at work (hence the lack of posts) but here is the second thing of the day I just can't pass up posting.

I'm an Artistic!

Got this from Ben. Dumb test (way too rigid) but fun anyway.

***Your Career Type: Artistic***

You are expressive, original, and independent.
Your talents lie in your artistic abilities: creative writing, drama, crafts, music, or art.

You would make an excellent:

Actor - Art Teacher - Book Editor
Clothes Designer - Comedian - Composer

The worst career options for your are conventional careers, like bank teller or secretary.

Hmmmmm....

It is sad how quick people will jump rudely down your throat and say you are full of crap when they have an OPINION that is different than yours.

So Sue Me

In case you missed it, Apple is getting sued for not putting warning labels on their iPods telling people that you can get hearing damage if you turn up the volume too high.

Companies should be able to counter-sue in cases like this. This guy hasn't even suffered hearing loss yet! He just thinks he will because he listens to his iPod too loud. I guess it was blocking out that little voice of reason.

High Gas Prices Are Good

If this doesn't get people commenting on my blog I don't know what will.

Reasons that high gas prices are good:

#1 If people are paying this much for gas , then they can obviously afford it, and if people can afford it and are buying it, why shouldn't the oil companies be charging more? Hello, economy 101 here. Plus, people making money is a boost to the economy.

#2 Less people on the road. Can you imagine how crowded the freeways would be right now if gas was $1 a gallon?

#3 higher gas prices increase public outcry over lack of alternative energy sources and public transportation, both which need more money invested in them.

I bet we hit $3.50 a gallon or more this summer.

On a different note, this is so true:

Freezing

It froze last night. I think the weather was waiting till I planted my poor little trees. It is currently 40 degrees out.

We just had our house 30 day inspection (it was rescheduled from its original date). Hopefully they will get out and finish our tile and our kitchen cabinets now. They are also going to look at the grading around our house since water doesn't get away from the house very well. One of the best things the will fix is our laundry room exhaust fan. It is so loud you can hear it anywhere in the house.

I'm going down to LA on Wednesday. Thursday will be my last day at Northrop. Hopefully I will start with FUSD on the following Thursday. I will have a week off inbetween so that should be nice.

Finally

I actually exercised tonight. I bought Deb Dance Dance Revolution for Christmas, and I was practicing so that I could beat her (-= I burned over 100 calories in about 10 minutes (with 50 of them being in one minute and thirty seconds). Crazy stuff. I really enjoy it. Go ahead, laugh now and get it out of your system.

For those of you that don't know, I got a job with Fresno Unified School District as the Web Master. I just got the final word today. All that remains is getting finger printed and making sure I'm not a horrible criminal, and I will be able to start a job that really sounds like a ton of fun. I will get to redesign the site from scratch; so basically it will be mine. This is a great opportunity for me.

Nothing much else going on. I've been sick for the past week, but I am finally getting better (hence the exercising). Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get out and do some much neglected yard work.

Take care!

Fruity

Sorry for the long blank period here in blog land. Life has been interesting, but nothing has happened that I really want to post here. The Wrights and the Winters were here for new years and fun was had by all, and Deb and I went to my parents house for my birthday party, but besides that... nope!

My mom did buy me some fruit trees, and I bought some fruit trees and some other stuff. We will be growing:
Three varieties of Necterines
Two varieties of Peaches
Four varieties of Cherries (all on one tree, way too cool!)
Four varieties of Apples (all on one tree)
One Appricot
One Plum
Two Chinese Wisteria (vine)
One yellow flowering tree that is apperently poisenous

I am currently sick and very bored.
